Our mission: bringing pets and kids closer together!

Kids need pets, and pets need kids. Helping to bring them together for happy and healthy friendships is our mission at Best Pets For Kids.fun

We write lively, informative and fun books on the Grade 4 level for inquisitive preteens ages 8 to 12. These books are packed with curious facts, pet care tips and plenty of full-color photos to delight young readers.

Pets and Kids Are Made For Each Other!

Kids and pets need each other, as best friends, companions and family members.

Kids learn so much from having a pet: how to take responsibility. Be compassionate and kind. Think of others as well as their own needs and desires.

Having pets also connects kids to the natural world. We live in an era when it is too easy to plug in and zone out in front of television, video games or texting friends. Rarely do our kids play and explore outside.

Today, more than ever, we need ways to connect kids to our natural world.

How else will our kids ever learn what they must know, as adults, to protect our planet and every living thing on it?

Our future depends on our kids and the choices they make

And this is one great benefit of having pets. They draw kids out of themselves, out of their default setting (sit back and let adults or electronics entertain you) and out of acting helpless (as some kids would prefer to do).

Having a pet can draw out a sky child, calm a nervous child, befriend an unpopular child, support a disabled child and enliven the life of any child.

I believe passionately that pets and kids belong together. They help each other learn, see, understand and grow in mind, body and spirit.

They’re made for each other!

Good pets – and good kids – don’t simply ‘happen,’ as any parent or teacher can tell you. I have been or am both teacher and parent as well as a lifetime pet lover and pet owner. Being a good kid, a good pet, a good parent or a good person is learned behaviour, not instinct.

Kids and pets need that opportunity to learn and grow together.

We proudly introduce you to our Best Pets For Kids Series of books grounded in these beliefs I’ve just shared with you:

Best Pets For Kids – I Want A Pet Series

These books tell preteen children ages 8 to 12 where to get their pet, what care he or she needs and everything a young pet owner must know about good pet parenting.

Written in a lively conversational style on the Grade 4 reading level, these books are packed with information, pet care tips and colour photos.

My co-author for these books is Tristan Pulsifer, age 9. He lives in a multi-pet family and is my go-to expert on what kids like. You can read more here about how and why we wrote these books together.

Best Pets For Kids – Fun Facts For Kids Series

While researching the I Want A Pet books, we uncovered so many fascinating facts about pets and animals that there had to be more books, and here they are.

These aren’t ‘list’ books. Each doesn’t merely ‘tell’ you the fact, it explains it fully in a fun way meant just for young readers ages 8 to 12, or in grades 4 to 7.

  • Who was the first world-famous dog movie star?
  • What one thing did cats do that no other animal has ever done? And why did cats doing this one thing change human history?
  • Why can some lizards change colour?
  • Is there such a thing as a man-eating lizard in the world (yes, there is!) and where does it live?
  • Which is smarter, cats or dogs?
  • What can lizards do that no human can?

Every child (or teen or adult) who is curious about or passionate about dogs, cats, reptiles and other animals will enjoy these books and their full colour photographs.
